Our Mission and Ethics

Our Mission

The High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA) is designed to encourage, promote, aid and effect the voluntary interchange of data, information, experience, ideas and knowledge about methods, processes, and techniques relating to investigations and security in advanced technologies among its membership. As a not-for-profit organization, the Atlantic Chapter of the HTCIA strives to educate the public on the safe use of technology in their everyday life. The Atlantic Chapter of the HTCIA holds at least one regional security and privacy seminar annually which is open to the public. These education seminars are "vendor neutral", where the technology or issue is discussed rather than specific product lines or services.

Our Ethics

  • The HTCIA is dedicated to improving methods for investigating and prosecuting crimes involving advanced technologies. Members are dedicated to mutually assisting each other in the pursuit of this goal.
  • Members will always use what they learn through HTCIA for the betterment of its members and their sponsoring organizations.
  • Members agree to respect the confidential nature of any information, procedures, or techniques they become aware of because of their involvement with HTCIA.
  • Members will not disclose such confidential information to anyone who is not a member in good standing of the HTCIA without the written permission from their respective Chapter Board.
  • Members will never reveal the professional confidences entrusted among one another except under circumstances consistent with the purpose of HTCIA.
  • Members will never misrepresent their employment, intentions, or professional affiliations.
  • Members will refrain from even the appearance of impropriety detrimental to the HTCIA, its purpose, or its members.
  • Members will use their best efforts to support the integrity and competence of HTCIA and prevent the subversion of the association and its purpose.
  • Members will promote cooperation and mutual assistance among the International Board of Directors and its Chapters.

Internet Safety

One of the major goals and responsibilities of our members is help promote awareness around Internet safety for children and their families.

HTCIA Internet Safety For Children Campaign

Starting in approximately 2003, the HTCIA partnered with five other organizations to address HTCIA's membership growing desire to conduct Internet Safety training in their geographic locations. As a direct result of this partnership the HTCIA Internet Safety For Children Campaign was created in 2004.

The focus of the HTCIA Internet Safety For Children Campaign was to be a catalyst, not a replacement, for existing "Internet Child Safety" programs. Its continuing strength has been that it recognizes that Internet Safety Training is not a one-size-fits-all concept. Different ages have different interests, patterns of behavior, and understanding of themselves and the world around them.

The HTCIA and its mission partners recognize that the Internet safety is a continuing issue that must be addressed by our membership and the public. We look forward to helping you provide this important training to your community's children. For more information on this program, please visit the campaign website.
